Kraken crypto tax estimator
Drop in your Kraken trades.csv and get a FIFO estimate of realized gains, split short-term and long-term. The file is read by your browser only: nothing is uploaded.

On an extension? Your 2025 return is due October 15, 2026 (IRS Form 4868), and a 2025 1099-DA shows proceeds only, so this estimate needs your full buy history. What to check before you file.
Moved coins between Kraken and Coinbase? Try the 1099-DA reconciler preview: it reads both exchanges and carries basis across transfers.
How to get trades.csv from Kraken
- Kraken web: open Documents (under your account menu), then Create export.
- Choose Trades, pick the date range (start from your first ever trade so FIFO has your buys), all fields, CSV.
- Download the zip when it's ready and unzip it. Use the file named
trades.csv.

What this does and doesn't do
- Does: spot trades against USD. Buys become lots (cost plus fee); sells use the oldest lots first (FIFO). Held more than one year counts as long-term.
- Doesn't: handle crypto-to-crypto trades, non-USD pairs, margin, futures, staking income, or coins you deposited from elsewhere. Those show up as warnings, not guesses.
- Sells with no matching buy usually mean the coins came from another wallet or exchange. For assets acquired before 2026 or transferred in, a broker's 1099-DA may report proceeds without cost basis, and you supply the basis yourself. Read the 1099-DA guide, or see what Kraken reports to the IRS.
