Crypto.com 1099-DA (2026): What It Shows, Why There's No Cost Basis, How to Reconcile

Crypto.com's Form 1099-DA, 1099-MISC and 1099-B explained: what each box shows, why the 2025 form has no cost basis, how to export your transaction history, and how to map each sale to Form 8949.

Your Crypto.com 1099-DA in 5 steps

  1. 01

Find the email with your Form 1099-DA download link. Crypto.com sends it to the latest address on your account; check spam.

  2. 02

Export your Token Wallet history as CSV from the app: Accounts page, History icon, Export.

  3. 03

Export the full history from any exchange or wallet you moved coins in from. Their purchase records hold the basis.

  4. 04

Work out the basis for every sale yourself: Crypto.com did not report cost basis on the 2025 form.

  5. 05

Sort each sale into Form 8949 box G, H, J or K and enter your own basis wherever the form shows none. Ask Crypto.com via In-App Chat if the form looks wrong.

The form, box by box

Schematic, not the official form: box titles from the IRS Instructions for Form 1099-DA (rev. Apr 30, 2026), checked Oct 1, 2026. The real form is laid out differently and has copies for the IRS, you and the broker.
  1. Box 1b, 1c What was sold

The coin and the number of units, to 18 decimal places. One row per sale (or per aggregated group under the optional methods).

  2. Box 1d, 1e When you bought and sold

Box 1d can be blank: the broker leaves it empty when the units were bought on several dates, or for a noncovered sale where it doesn't know the date. Your holding period comes from your own records then.

  3. Box 1f Proceeds

Gross proceeds, already reduced by the transaction costs of the sale. This is what goes in Form 8949 column (d).

  4. Box 1g Cost basis: the box that is often blank

The broker may leave it blank when box 9 is checked. Blank means not reported, not $0. You enter your correct basis in Form 8949 column (e).

  5. Box 2 Basis reported to the IRS?

Checked: the IRS has the broker's basis, so the row goes in Form 8949 box G or J. Unchecked: box H or K.

  6. Box 6 Short-term or long-term

One year or less is short-term. If the broker can't tell, the "Applicable checkbox on Form 8949" field shows code Y and you decide from your purchase date.

  7. Box 8 Your own numbers

Checked when the broker used acquisition details you gave it, such as basis you added for coins you transferred in.

  8. Box 9 Noncovered

Coins bought before 2026, or bought elsewhere and transferred in. For these the broker doesn't have to report basis.

  9. Box 11a-c Aggregated rows

Qualifying stablecoins and specified NFTs can be reported as yearly totals. If your total is $10,000 or less (stablecoins) or $600 or less (NFTs), the broker doesn't have to report them at all.

  10. Box 12a, 12b Transferred in

How many of the units sold had been transferred into the account, and when. A filled 12b is a strong hint that the basis lives in another exchange's export.

On Crypto.com's form, the rows to check first are the ones with box 9 checked and box 1g empty.

Covered vs noncovered on Crypto.com

Covered basis reported

  • IRS rule from 2026: crypto acquired after 2025 in a Crypto.com account and held there until sale. Crypto.com has not published its tax-year-2026 basis reporting details.

Noncovered basis may be blank

  • Crypto transferred in from another exchange or wallet (IRS definition of a covered security).
  • Crypto bought before 2026.
  • Tax year 2025: "we've chosen not to report cost basis information during this transitional period."

Missing basis on Crypto.com

Crypto.com's help pages (checked Oct 1, 2026) describe no in-app way to add cost basis for transferred coins. If you think your form is wrong, Crypto.com asks you to contact it via In-App Chat; either way, the correct basis goes in Form 8949 column (e).

Reconciler · Kraken + Coinbase

Coins came to Crypto.com from Kraken or Coinbase?

The reconciler doesn't read Crypto.com files yet. If your coins started on Kraken or Coinbase, their exports hold the purchase records: the reconciler finds the original cost for each lot so you can enter it on Form 8949.

The full guide

Not tax advice. This page summarizes IRS instructions and Crypto.com’s own help pages as of October 1, 2026. Crypto.com may change its process before forms go out. Check with a tax professional for your situation.

Short version: Crypto.com can send three different forms: a 1099-DA for crypto you sold or otherwise disposed of, a 1099-MISC for rewards, and a 1099-B for futures and options contracts. On its 2025 Form 1099-DA, Crypto.com chose not to report cost basis at all, so every sale shows proceeds with nothing to subtract. You supply the basis from your own records on Form 8949. Brokers send Form 1099-DA “to you and the IRS” (IRS).

What’s on the Crypto.com 1099-DA

Crypto.com lists these boxes for the 2025 form:

BoxWhat it shows
1aThe DTIF code for the asset
1bName of the digital asset
1cNumber of units sold, exchanged or otherwise disposed of
1eDate sold or disposed. May be blank when the form reports the year’s aggregate of stablecoins
1fProceeds: the USD value of what you disposed of, “minus the fees”

And above the list: “Cost basis is not required to be reported on form 1099-DA this year, and we’ve chosen not to report cost basis information during this transitional period to avoid any unintended error” (Crypto.com). There is no basis box to copy. Every 2025 sale needs the basis from your own records.

What changes for 2026

From sales after 2025, the IRS requires brokers to report basis for covered digital assets: ones “acquired after 2025” in an account where the broker provided custody, and “held in that account until the broker effects the disposition” (IRS, Instructions for Form 1099-DA). So under the IRS rule:

  • Crypto bought on Crypto.com in 2026 and sold there can show basis.
  • Crypto bought before 2026, or moved in from another exchange or wallet, is noncovered. Its basis can be left off.

Crypto.com’s help pages (checked Oct 1, 2026) don’t yet describe its tax-year-2026 form. We’ll update this page when they do.

Export your Crypto.com history

From Crypto.com Help: How Do I Export My Transaction History? (App):

  1. On the Accounts page, tap the History icon (top right).
  2. Tap Export (top right).
  3. Select Token Wallet and the start and end dates, then tap Export to CSV.
  4. Tap Download for the reports that are ready.

The Cash wallet and the Crypto.com Visa card export separately (Card tab > More > Settings > Export Transaction History for the card). The Crypto.com Exchange has its own export (Crypto.com Help: Exchange).

Pull history from the very first buy, not just this year: under first-in-first-out, a 2026 sale can use coins bought years ago.

If your Crypto.com form looks wrong

Crypto.com says to contact it via In-App Chat if you believe the form is incorrect, or that you should have received one and didn’t (Crypto.com). The IRS gives the same direction: request a corrected form from the issuer. “Don’t contact the IRS. We can’t correct your Form 1099-DA.” It also says not to wait to file (IRS: Understanding your Form 1099-DA).

Reconciling Crypto.com’s 1099-DA to Form 8949

Form 8949 has digital-asset boxes (IRS, Instructions for Form 8949):

Your 1099-DA rowHeld 1 year or lessHeld more than 1 yearColumn (e), basis
Basis reported to the IRSGJThe basis shown. Corrections go in (g) with code B
Basis not reported (every 2025 Crypto.com row)HKYour correct basis
No 1099-DA for the saleILYour correct basis

Column (d) is the proceeds on the form, already net of fees. Column (e) is where your basis goes: for a sale reported without basis, “enter the correct basis of the property in column (e)” (IRS i8949).

To work out basis by hand, the free cost basis calculator compares FIFO, LIFO and HIFO for one coin. If your coins passed through Kraken or Coinbase first, the 1099-DA checker traces them back to the original buy.

Common mistakes

  1. Expecting the 2025 form to show your gains

Crypto.com says cost basis "is not required to be reported on form 1099-DA this year" and it chose not to report it. Every 2025 sale needs a basis from your own records. (Crypto.com Help, 1099 Form for the 2025 Tax Year)

  2. Treating proceeds as profit

Box 1f is the USD value of what you sold "minus the fees," not your gain. Without a basis, the whole amount can look like profit. (Crypto.com Help, 1099 Form for the 2025 Tax Year)

  3. Missing the other forms

Crypto.com can also send a 1099-MISC for rewards and a 1099-B for contracts traded. Each covers different activity, so one form is not your whole year. (Crypto.com Help, 1099 Form for the 2025 Tax Year)

  4. Asking the IRS to fix the form

The IRS says to request a corrected form from the issuer: "Don't contact the IRS. We can't correct your Form 1099-DA." (IRS, Understanding your Form 1099-DA)

Questions people ask

Does Crypto.com report to the IRS?

Crypto.com says it may be required to issue Form 1099-DA to U.S. persons who disposed of digital assets, Form 1099-MISC for $600 or more in rewards, and Form 1099-B for contracts traded. Brokers report Form 1099-DA proceeds "to you and the IRS."

Why is there no cost basis on my Crypto.com 1099-DA?

For tax year 2025, Crypto.com chose not to report cost basis "during this transitional period to avoid any unintended error." Basis was not required for 2025 under IRS rules.

What is on the Crypto.com 1099-DA?

Box 1a (DTIF code), 1b (asset name), 1c (units), 1e (date sold, which may be blank for an aggregate stablecoin line) and 1f (proceeds in USD, minus fees).

Do I report crypto sales if I got no 1099-DA?

Yes. "Whether or not you receive a Form 1099-DA, you must report all income, gains and losses from digital asset transactions." Sales with no form go in Form 8949 box I or L.

Source: IRS, Understanding your Form 1099-DA

Box 1g (cost basis) is blank. Do I report $0?

No. A blank box 1g means the broker did not report basis, not that your basis is zero. For a noncovered sale with no basis shown, the Form 8949 instructions say to enter the correct basis of the property in column (e). Keep the purchase records that support it.

Source: IRS, Instructions for Form 8949

Which Form 8949 box do I use?

Digital assets use boxes G to L. Basis reported to the IRS: G (held one year or less) or J (more than one year). Basis not reported: H or K. No 1099-DA at all: I or L. The 1099-DA has an "Applicable checkbox on Form 8949" field with the letter the broker expects; code Y means the broker could not tell short-term from long-term, so you decide from your own purchase date.

Source: IRS, Instructions for Form 1099-DA (2026)

Why are some stablecoin sales missing from the form?

Brokers do not have to report designated sales of qualifying stablecoins if your total gross proceeds from them are $10,000 or less for the year. The sales are still yours to report.
